My Journey
“The wound is the place where the light enters you.” -Rumi
After suffering from multiple back injuries, I continued to live my fast-paced life never stopping to think twice about what these injuries were telling me. I thought I was living my dream life; traveling all over the world, going out all the time, doing yoga, and all the while not listening to the signs my body was telling me. I would have surgery to fix my back, then continue on in this fashion until the next injury. This continued for many years, up until my latest injury led me to be in such excruciating pain that I was unable to walk or stand up straight. My surgeon said, “You have two options: you either have this surgery and risk losing feeling in your leg permanently or you figure out a way to heal yourself.” I went home, allowed myself the time to really let this sink in, cried, and decided I would set out the next day to begin my healing journey.
The next morning, I sat in meditation, asking for guidance, and a name popped into my head. It was the name of my mentor teacher from my Yoga Teacher Training and I emailed her to ask for help. Among other amazing pieces of advice, she said watch the movie, “Heal.” So I did and this started me on my path to recovery. I learned about the power of a gratitude practice, a meditation practice, how much our mind affects our body, and continued to do extensive research on self-healing.
Within a month, I had completely changed my lifestyle; meditating twice a day, doing a nightly gratitude practice, cutting out sugar, meat, and dairy from my diet, and doing gentle exercises to strengthen my body. I was able to walk again after a month, got rid of my pain, and went back to work after 3 months. Soon after returning to work, I realized I had outgrown my current line of work, and teaching people about how they can heal themselves became my passion. I wanted to teach others how to listen to their body, tune into their inner voice, and learn how to live authentically.
I started teaching meditation and found my program at IIN to become a holistic health coach. In December 2021, I became a member of the esteemed group of coaches who go through extensive training to become board certified through the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching. And let's just say the rest is history.
